This was the old royal residence which in turn became the fist home of the monks. Of the original monastery, the access stairway, the convent and the defence tower have survived. In 1.808, the exiled writer Jovellanos stayer there, and at the beginming of the 20th c.is was home to writers such as Ruben Dario, Unamuno, Azorin and Eugenio d'Ors.
